I cannot believe the difference

Just months ago, Janewly’s future looked very different. Today, she is thriving.

For Lien the change in her daughter Janewly has been remarkable. “I cannot believe the difference,” she said. “She is now strong, happy and full of life.”

The outlook for the two-year-old was not always so rosy.

Janewly from Santo Island, Vanuatu, was born with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) — a hole in the heart requiring life-saving surgery.

With the support of ROMAC Janewly travelled to Australia to receive the surgery she urgently needed at Sydney’s Westmead Children’s Hospital. Following a successful procedure she spent several weeks recuperating and growing stronger each day.

After careful review Janewly was given medical clearance to return home. With mum Lien, Janewly flew back to Santo Island where she was warmly welcomed by family and friends.

ROMAC extends sincere thanks to the Eastern Region team and the many Rotarians who provided regular visits, care and support throughout Janewly and Lien’s stay. Their kindness made a meaningful difference during their journey.

We also acknowledge the cardio-thoracic team at the Heart Clinic including heart surgeon Dr Johann Brink and cardiologist Dr Philip Roberts whose expertise made this outcome possible.

Janewly now has the opportunity to grow, thrive and enjoy a healthy future with her family.
