Tom celebrates a milestone

Tom from Aneityum Island, Vanuatu, continues to make wonderful progress, each day gaining strength, independence and confidence.

One of the most encouraging developments has been his mobility. Tom has now progressed to walking with the support of his Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO), with a new pair of sneakers an important milestone in his recovery journey.

Seeing him move around with increasing confidence has been a source of great encouragement for his mum Marie, the medical team, and members of the Eastern Committee who regularly visit and support the family.

His doctors are very pleased with his progress and there is now the exciting possibility Tom and his mum may soon receive medical clearance to return home.

A special highlight this month was celebrating Tom's third birthday. Tom is pictured above at the big event.

Tom and Marie were joined by several members of the Eastern Committee and RMH staff to mark the occasion. The celebration was made even more memorable thanks to the generosity of RMH staff who provided a wonderful Paw Patrol birthday cake that brought a big smile to Tom's face.

Members of the Eastern Region Committee help Tom celebrate his third birthday.

Tom was also delighted to receive many gifts and birthday surprises. Among the most special was a superhero cape and book from Capes 4 Kids. Through the gift of a cape the organisation empowers children with courage, love and support to face the challenges of medical treatment with confidence and imagination.

His excitement and joy were evident throughout the celebration as he proudly showed off his presents and enjoyed the special attention. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to celebrate not only his birthday but also the remarkable progress he has made during his time in Australia.

It was a joyful occasion for all involved and a reminder of how far Tom has come on his journey. We look forward to supporting Tom and Marie through the final stages of his recovery and hopefully their return home soon.
