However, as for all our volunteers, the time involved is rewarded many times over seeing the difference ROMAC and our wonderful operations and regional teams make for each child we can bring to Australia or New Zealand for treatment.
Members of the Operations Team have been busy supporting the following children during the past month:
We are experiencing a gradual increase in the number of children being referred to us.
However, in some cases, particularly from Timor Leste, we are finding children require further clinical assessment before we can determine if they meet our guidelines for support and to guide which hospital is best suited to provide the required treatment.
Over the past year we have been grateful for the support provided by Dr Hilary at Darwin Hospital, who has assessed a number of Timor Leste children for us.
With the increasing number of children requiring assessment, the Board has agreed to send a pilot team to Dili to carry out assessments there. In the meantime, the operations team is busy progressing preparations to support children from across Oceania – Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
Our IT Help Desk person, Casey Wilfling, left us this month and I want to acknowledge and thank him for the outstanding contribution he has made to ROMAC since joining us in November 2024. We have benefitted hugely from his work on developing our systems, implementing a Help Desk process, and managing case escalations more effectively and efficiently. While we are sad to see Casey go, we are delighted it is for a new permanent role and wish him well for this next step in his career.
We continue to actively work on finding volunteers to join the Board, and for Regional Chair and committee roles. I do encourage Rotarians from Australia and New Zealand to please consider joining this very active and rewarding multi-district project. If you are interested, please send an expression of interest to our HR Coordinator
