
Sandra has been ACT Regional Chair since 2006 and has been the recipient of multiple Rotary awards including several Sapphire Paul Harris Fellowships.
She also serves on the Board of Kids in Care ACT providing joy to vulnerable children with Christmas gifts and producing emergency Go Bags to Children, Youth and Families and to Domestic Violence centres.
Sandra joined Rotary in 1999 with the Rotary Club of Ginninderra, becoming President in 2006. After learning about ROMAC, her club hosted the first ROMAC child in Canberra.
In 2008 Sandra was the Charter President for the Rotary club of Gungahlin and then President of Gungahlin twice since.
Her work with ROMAC children fits perfectly with her career as a registered nurse and midwife. Sandra is pictured (above right) helping District 9705 Chair Debbie Whitfield treat Vanuatu club feet patient Anis to a ROMAC-style 13th birthday.
In 2010 she obtained a Memorandum of Understanding between the ACT Government and ROMAC, providing care for up to four ROMAC children a year in Canberra Public hospital. Sandra has also organised for three ROMAC children to be treated pro bona for surgery at ACT Calvary Private hospital.
Sandra has been able to Sandra also established an ongoing agreement with the ACT Minister of Education in 2017 to waive fees for ROMAC patients attending school in between surgery or waiting to be medically discharged.
Sandra was awarded Rotary’s “Four Avenues of Service Citation” in 2009-10 and the “Service Above Self Award” in 2013-14. In 2015 she was a finalist as the ACT Senior Australian of the Year for her involvement with ROMAC, which gave her an opportunity to talk widely about Rotary International’s ROMAC program that was established at a Rotary program in 1988. She received the 9705 District Governor’s “Excellence in International Service” in 2019-20.
Sandra is married to Brian and has three sons. She and Brian have walked the Kokoda track, the Mt Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit and Mt Kilimanjaro.

The Rotary Club of Gregory Hills Next-Gen hosted its annual Lei Day High Tea bringing together community members for a wonderful day of fellowship, entertainment and fundraising in support of ROMAC.
